                              GOGEBIC

        Infirmary two miles from Bessemer.  The old house which was sold to
     the keeper, who cared for the poor under contract, has given way to a
     newly constructed, modern and well equipped brick building erected at
     a cost of $17,000.  The old building was ill-fitted to its use and the
     method of care wholly unsatisfactory.  The county is to be congratu-
     lated upon this advance movement.  At the time of visit the new build-
     ing which is on another site and in different section, was nearing
     completion.
