Ran onto a submerged rocky point at Grand Marias but lifted off by the heavy seas and backed out into deep water, soon going over on her side. The masts were cut away and she righted herself but was taking on water. Efforts to rescue the men were driven back by the wind and waves as the STRANGER was driven out into the lake and vanished.
