Bradley, Saginaw, MI MASTER: Captain Paul Howell TONNAGE: 1841.22 gt, 1501.65 nt DIMENSIONS: 270 x 40 x 19 CASUALTIES: 5-6 of 18 Bound from Ashtabula, OH., with coal for Racine, WI., when driven onto Grubbs Reef in a gale. Capt. Howell, Peter Daley (passenger), and 4 of the crew were lost when their small boat capsized as they attempted to go to shore for help. Remainder of the crew taken off by the steamer M. OSBORNE, of Cleveland. On the day of her launch, 17 June 1893, the steamer refused to budge when the blocking was removed. The tugs WITCH and GEO. R. HAND both had a try at pulling on her without success. The passenger boat LORA was pressed into service as she passed by the scene. The line snapped on the first attempt. On the second at- tempt the LORA'S tow post was pulled out and came through her bulwarks as if shot out of a cannon. Her launch was postponed until the following day.
