                    While on the return voyage from Chicago to
                  Ahnapee the ST. LAWRENCE caught fire due to an
                  unattended kettle of tar on the stove that was
                  meant for use in caulking her deck. The captain
                  and one passenger took the yawl which swamped
                  as soon as it hit the water. The remaing crew
                  were rescued by the schooner GRENADA and taken
                  to Ahnapee.
