TONNAGE: 104.44 gt DIMENSIONS: 97.3 x 20.8 x 7.85 CASUALTIES: 0 of 5 - all of Racine The SPEED, in tow of the tug HENRY S. SILL, was carrying a load of lumber and shingles from Pentwater, MI., for Kelly, Weaks & Co. at Racine, WI., when the tow line parted during a northeasterly gale just as they were attempting to enter Racine harbor. Despite the best efforts of the SILL and the Racine life-savers, the SPEED was driven ashore just to the north of the light-house crib where she fell over on her beam ends. Her crew had taken to the rigging and were brought ashore using the breeches buoy.
