John Roberts TONNAGE: 307 gt DIMENSIONS: 140 x 26 x 12 CASUALTIES: None of 7 The JESSIE SCARTH left Chicago on October 2 laden with 22,600 bushels of corn for Midland, Ont. On October 3rd a savage gale swept the lakes and caught up with the SCARTH twelve miles north of Manistee. After dropping her anchors the schooner began taking on more water than could be pumped out. The crew took to the yawl and, rowing with boards a piece of a ladder, managed to make it to the pier at Manistee.
