Wheeler, West Bay City, MI - 1889 OWNER(S): at Midland, Ont. MASTER: - TONNAGE: 2,149 gt DIMENSIONS: 292.6 x 41 x 20.4 CASUALTIES: None Ran on Round Island Shoal in October, 1903. Lightered and released. Stranded on a sandbar south of Madeline Island opposite Chequamegon Point Lighthouse in July, 1906. Bound from Cleveland to Ashland, light. Aground on the west bank of Detroit River, just above Bois Blanc island in June, 1911. Foundered and abandoned by her crew 30 miles northwest of Whitefish Point in the great gale of 1913 with no loss of life. Picked up by the Tomlinson steamer, BARNUM, in command of Capt. Wm. G. Maltby, and towed to Whitefish. The BARNUM stood by her until tugs arrived. Towed to the Soo, repaired and sold Canadian. Stranded off Lexingtom, MI., in a heavy fog in June 1919. Released by Reid Wrecking Co., Port Huron. In later years was made into a barge and, later still, as a 200 ft. drydock. Partially burned in 1941 at Midland, Ont., and scuttled in Midland Bay.
