CASUALTIES: 1 of 8 The LOOMIS was loaded with lumber for Chicago and driving before a heavy sea when she struck the propeller CITY OF FREMONT (later ADIRAMLED) in the darkness off Grand Traverse light. The propeller took her in tow and kept her for almost an hour and a half before a heavy starboard sea capsized the injured schooner. The crew were left clinging to for over 24 hours, until the overturned wreck finally struck the reef at Grand Traverse. The crew made it six miles to shore on a make-shift raft of spars and lumber.
