W. G. Rogers of Henderson, N.Y. TONNAGE: 4731 gross, 3911 net DIMENSIONS: 420 x 50.16 x 24 CASUALTIES: 14 of 24 Launched October 2, 1902 at the yards of Jenks Shipbuilding Co., Port Huron, MI. May 31, 1906 - collided with steamer ERIN on St. Clair River, cutting the ERIN in half. The JOHN B. COWLE had sailed from Buffalo loaded with coal for the upper lakes and was on her return trip from Two Harbors to Cleveland with a belly full of iron ore when, in a dense fog off Whitefish Bay, was rammed amidships by the upbound ISAAC M. SCOTT, which was on her maiden voyage. In the aftermath Captain W. G. Rogers and Pilot Edmund E. Carlton, of the JOHN B. COWLE, were relieved from duty for 30 days for violating rule 15 of the pilot rules (proceeding too fast for foggy weather conditions.) Pilot F. W. Wertheimer, of the ISAAC M.
