August 1, 1904 - Loaded with sawdust, and bound for Chicago, she was caught in a summer storm. Took on a severe leak and sank near Little Sable Pt., Lake Michigan. ---------------------------------------------------- --Sparks from a stove set fire to the freshly-painted cabin of the schooner Day Spring in the canal Friday and nearly produced a serious conflagration. As it was, about $10 damage was done before the flames which had been discovered soon after ignition, were extinguished. This and the failure to arrive of sailor Dennis Grover, who was hurt in a mill at Shelby and could not come has kept Capt. Ludwig from sailing as soon as he desired. He has telegraphed for another man. Steward Myron Hanson had his hands burned quite painfully while putting out the fire. ---Benton Harbor Palladium.
