Her crew took to the yawls in an attempt to make shore but 5, including Capt. Knowlton, were lost. John Rickle and Eli Wait were saved by the life saving crew from Crisp Point. Capt. James L. Knowlton was born about 1846 and was the son of Capt. George Lafayette Knowlton and Olive (Haskins) of Ottawa County, OH.
