BUTTERS was taking in timber at the railroad dock, chief engineer Durr got foul of the guy rope on the hoisting gaff, and was raised several feet in the air and precipitated into the water between the steamer and wharf. He was under water so long that he expected to stay there the rest of the week, but being an excellent swimmer, he at last reached the surface and was taken out looking as pleasant as could be expected under the circumstances. Mr. Durr very gen- erously attaches no blame to anyone concerned in the accident. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Ludington Record Thursday, October 16, 1884 Capt. Broadbent's resignation as keeper of the Life Saving station, has been accepted. He returned to Racine last Monday night. He was a good sailor, a careful and competent keeper of the station, and reliable as a public servant. Charles Tuft has been appointed keeper of the Life Saving station here *** Capt. Robt. Broadbent, resigned. Capt. Tuft has been a member of the crew for a considerable time and is an experienced surfman. The appoint- ment is a good one and will serve to main- tain the present efficiency of the service. The station, recently moved from across the lake by contractor Charles Gatke, has been thoroughly renovated and presents a tasty and clean appearance. Its present position is the most advantageous that could be chosen. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Ludington Record Thursday, October 23, 1884 No marine news in this issue. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Ludington Record Thursday, October 30, 1884 No marine news in this issue. ===========================================================================
