Previous to his last illness Mr. MILLS had been in good health for one of his age. He came to Gladwin from Yale in 1889, lived her a year, returned to Yale a year, and has since resided here continuously. At Yale he was engaged in the mercan- tile business, which he continued in Gladwin and for a few years at Millsville up to five years ago when he retired from active business. As a business man he was known for square and upright dealing, one whose word was never doubted. He had served with honor on the city council and as mayor of the city, and was ever faithful to his public duties. He was also one of the first members of St. Paul's church of this city. When the church building was erected he was one of the building committee, and in a large part due to his management the building was completed free of debt. Mr. MILLS was born at Yarmouth, Canada, Nov. 11, 1840, and April 25, 1860, was married to ALVIRA CUDNEY, and a few years later they moved to Lynn, St. Clair county, where his father was lumbering. He later cleared a farm there and for ten years previous to moving to Gladwin he engaged in the mercantile business in Yale. To his first marriage were born one son, JOHN B., who died in December, 1916, and one daughter, Mrs. CORA W. FOSTER, a resident of Gladwin; also a son and daughter who died in infancy. Two grand-sons also survive him GORDON M., of Gladwin, and LELAND D. MILLS, of Atlanta, Mich., besides three brothers living in Chicago, Lapeer and Byron. His first companion passed away Oct. 19, 1915, and in November, 1916, he was married to Mrs. CLARA HANNA, who also survives him. Funeral services were held at St. Paul's church Wendesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. E. B. Jermin. Interment in Highland cemetery.
