- Gladwin County -
Gladwin county was formed in 1831 and is named for Major General Henry Gladwin who was a British commander at the Siege of
Detroit in 1763. The county remained unorganized until 1875, during which time judicial matters were handled in Saginaw and
Midland counties. The first census for this county was taken in 1860 and showed only fourteen people.
The first permanet settlerof record was Marvil Secord who took up residence in what is
now Secord township along the Tittabawassee River.
The county is divided into fifteen townships, the whole of which contain a total area of
516 square miles. The county seat, and largest city, is Gladwin.
