H. Connor is manager. This is a new mine with a slope opening about 200 feet in length. Depth of coal vein from the surface is 83 feet. The thickness of the vein of coal is 20 inches, has a black slate roof and a fire clay bottom. It is located two miles west of Montrose on the Grand Trunk railroad. Test holes have been put down on the adjoining farms, and five feet of coal was found. The town of Montrose is centrally located in a rich farm- ing district, and a good mine here would undoubtedly have a large domestic trade. =========================================================================== Note: There were no accidents of any kind at this mine that were reported during this year.
