News was received Monday of the sudden death of AUGUSTUS BACHAND, which occurred at Petoskey Satur- day last, heart failure being the immediate cause. Deceased was one of the pioneers of L'Anse, having lived here for 41 years, prior to 1897, when he re- moved to Petoskey. He was a man well known, and his sudden death was a great surprise. AUGUSTUS BACHAND was born in lower Canada in 1835. In 1846 he removed to Vermont, where he resided un- til 1854, when he came to Lake Superior. He resided in Houghton for two years and then came to L'Anse, residing here almost continuously until 1897, when he removed to Petoskey, Mich. He was united in mar- riage to MARGARET ST. ARNOLD in 1855. Eight children were born to them - six daughters and two sons - of whom seven are now living, viz. MRS. ROBERT REYNOLDS, and MRS. PETER CLYNE, of L'Anse; MRS. CHARLES PENNOCK, Odanah, Wis.; JAMES BACHAND, of Houghton; MRS. R. L. WOOD, EDWARD BACHAND and MRS. HARRY LUCAS, of Petos- key. The funeral was held at Petoskey Monday. ===============================================================================
