Mr. VAN DYKE suffered from a complication of diseases caused by advanced years and he steadily lost strength, the end coming early on Sunday morning. Funeral services will be conducted over the body at the family home at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon. Rev. P. B. Ferris, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, will officiate at the service. Interment will be at Lakeview cemetery. Mr. VAN DYKE was born at Lewiston, Ill., Jan. 27, 1838. As a young man he enlisted in the 132nd regiment of the Illinois volunteers and served through the civil war. After being honorably discharged he came to the peninsula and followed the occupation of a trapper, his trap line running from Grand Island through what is now the site of Escanaba and where then but one house stood on the north shore, to Marinette where he made his headquarters. Later he entered the employ of the North- western road and remained an employe of that company for 25 years. He left the employ of the company to engage in the furniture busi- ness in which he remained until 1894 when he retired from active business. He is survived by his wife, one son and two daughters. The surviving son and daughters are: CAPT. WALLACE VAN DYKE of Pentwater; MRS. THEODORE FARRELL and MISS FLORA VAN DYKE of this city. He is also survived by two brothers and one sister, GEO. N. VAN DYKE of Ponce Lonita, La.; JOHN G. VAN DYKE of Troy, Mont., and MRS.
