BLISS, Clinton County Pioneer Dies Today HORATIO S. BLISS, one of the oldest pioneers of Clinton county, died suddenly of heart disease at his home in Riley, this morning, aged seventy-eight years. MR. BLISS had several times expressed a de- sire to have his body cremated upon his death and the body will be taken to Detroit, Monday, for cremation. The funeral services will be Sunday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, at the old homestead. MR. BLISS was in his usual health yesterday and spent the day planting potatoes. He was born in the east, April 17, 1830, and came to Riley, Clinton county, in 1850, residing there for fifty- eight years. July 4, 1859, MR. BLISS married MISS LUCINDA HILDRETH, who survives him. MRS. BLISS lost her eyesight a number of years ago. One son was born to them, HARRY G. BLISS, who resides at home and manages the farm of 200 acres. In religious belief MR. BLISS was a Spiritualist. ------------------------------------------------------- Belding Banner Thursday, 18 June 1908 HORATIO S. BLISS, one of the early settlers of Clinton county, dropped dead on his farm in Riley township Friday. He was a member of the Twenty- third Michigan during the civil war and resided on the farm where he died for nearly 60 years.
