The L'Anse Sentinel
Saturday, 30 January 1904

         Friday evening of last week fire destroyed
       the big factories of the Hall & Munson Co., at
       Bay Mills, twelve miles from Sault Ste. Marie.
       The loss is about $250,000, fully covered by
       insurance. The plants were built in 1890, and
       included a sash, door and blind factory, box
       factory and planing mill. As the Hall & Munson
       plants were the sole activity of the town, Bay
       Mills has now practically ceased to exist, and
       the 1,200 people wil be obliged to seek other
       fields.
