Wednesday, 4 August, 1869

         At Michigan City, on Wednesday last, MARCUS MERCHANT,
       of Bristol, Mich., while deranged, or suffering from an
       attack of delerium tremens, committed committed (sic)
       suicide by shooting himself in the head. On his person
       were found $957.90, mortgages calling for $3,300, four
       notes for $500 each and one for $300, besides other
       valuable papers.
