The funeral services of MRS. M. STANDISH was held in the Congregational Church Wednesday, 10 a.m. MRS. STANDISH had been slowly failing for several months, in fact had not been well since her step-daughter, MRS. ROSE STANDISH- TRIEBER, started for the Carolina Islands as a Missionary. When she bade ROSE good-bye one year ago she said to her "ROSE, I never will see you again," and her words proved but too true. MRS. STANDISH was a brave-hearted woman and tried to bear up with her usual spirit but the grief of parting with ROSE told upon her and she could not disguise it wholly. MRS. STANDISH took ROSE when she was a babe a few weeks old, her own mother having died shortly after the birth of ROSE. MRS. S. afterward married MR. STANDISH and proved a most excel- lent mother to three daughters thus intrusted to her care. ROSE and her own sister, MRS. M. AUSTIN, have known no other mother and the affection which has existed between them and their step-mother has been an unusual one. The oldest daughter of MR. STANDISH, being a child by the first wife, and a half sister of ROSE and MRS. AUSTIN, and much the oldest, was married and away from the old home while the other two were still young. MRS. STANDISH did her duty unflinchingly by her step-daughters, and after their father died she determined to educate the two younger ones. They received an excellent education at her hands and now mourn the loss of a true friend and most de- voted mother. MRS. TRIEBER wrote that she had been very sick and they were obliged to send to a neighboring island for a physician. Word has been sent to ROSE of her mother's death. =========================================================================== If you've reached this file through a SEARCH, you can access more of our growing collection of FREE online information by going to the following URL: http://www.us-data.org/ ===========================================================================
