RACHEL C., wife of L. P. ALEXANDER, Esq., died in Buchanan, of consumption, after an illness of six months, on the 4th inst., aged 38. MRS. ALEXANDER has been a resident of Buchanan during the past eighteen years. Her friends and neighbors feel that they have sustained a loss in this dispensation of Providence; but more particu- larly will she be missed in the family circle. She was a devouted wife, a kind and faithful mother, and a safe adviser. The writer of this article has been acquainted with her since the days of her child- hood. Together we have rambled over the Allegany hills of New York, and along the valley of the "Lovely Genesee." Together we attended the same village school, studied the same authors, shared in the same sports. This pertains to her youthful days. Again, after an abscence of many years we have met. It has been our happy lot to share the hospitalities of the family during the past two years. We found her the same social friend as in years gone by. The Methodist Episcopal Church, of which she has been a faithful member during the last twenty-five years, has lost one of its bright- est ornaments in this place. Her pen was ever ready to defend its principles its uses, which she loved and practiced so many years. Although she was firmly attached to the church of her choice, yet she was not bigoted, and could worship with all who love our Lord and Savior. Her religion had its empire in the heart, and influenced the entire life. She was modest and unassuming, yet prompt in duty. - Her mission of mercy, efficient and far-reaching, was quiet and unobtrusive. Her reason remained until the last. A few moments before she died, she said "O, Lord, come quickly." He gratified her desire and fifteen minutes past 6 o'clock A.M., the disenthralled spirit winged its upward flight to find a more congenial clime, and better home in. "The palace of angels and God."
