OTT, employed at Wells & Co's basket factory, was almost instantly killed by the bursting of a cast-iron disc to a machine, for shaping bottoms to grape baskets, which he was attending and which was re- volving at a speed of over thirteen hundred revo- lutions per minute. The pieces were scattered in all directions, with great force, some passing through the floor, and one piece weighing twenty- five or thirty pounds striking young OTT breaking his jaw, mangling his breast and shoulder fear- fully and carrying him backward and down to the floor. Fellow employes rushed to his assistance and DR. SCOTT was quickly summoned, but the vic- tim was past all human help. He was a ghastly sight. The remains were conveyed to his home and a jury under CORONER MILLER held an inquest, ren- dering a verdict of accidental death. His age was about 22 years. A train of unfortunate circum- stances seem to follow MR. OTT. He was married less than a year ago and soon after the wedding his wife died under peculiarly sad circumstances, and he had only about recovered from an injury, to his foot, in an elevator. The funeral services were held from the M. E. Church yesterday, Rev. CARREL conducting them. The cause of the bursting of the disc is not known. The escape of others in the mill from injury was simply miraculous. =========================================================================== If you've reached this file through a SEARCH, you can access more of our growing collection of FREE online information by going to the following URL: http://www.us-data.org/ ===========================================================================
