JOHN L. HEARTT, who had been very ill for over two weeks with typhoid fever. JOHN LAKE HEARTT was born in Ypsilanti, Mich., on Feb. 10, 1865, and came to St. Joseph with his parents in the fall of 1878. He was in every respect an honest, upright and true young man. He graduated from the St. Joseph High School in 1883. Soon after his arrival here he presented a letter of church membership to the Con- gregational Church in this place. He was only a boy of 13 years, but the boy was the father of the man. As a boy, a youth and a young man he maintained his Christ- ian character and strove to live a con- sistent Christian life. He was active in church work and ever ready to be useful in the affairs of the church. He was for some time Secretary of the Sunday-school and an active member of the Young People's Society of Christian Endeavor. He was naturally of a happy disposition, greatly loved by his family and all who knew him. In business he was a success - strict integrity guided him in all his duties. He was a successful fruit farmer, making the grape a specialty, and was recognized as a leader in improved modes of culture of the same. We deeply sympathize with the bereaved parents and the two brothers and sister. May the good Lord sustain them in this severe trial. Although but 23 years of age when he died MR. HEARTT has left an example that young men would do well to follow. His life and career was short but a true and noble one. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J. V. HICKMOTT at the family resi- dence. The family desire to express their gratitude for the kindness of so many friends who came to help in their deep sorrow, to the Young People's Society of Christian Endeavor and others for beauti- ful floral offerings, and all that loving hearts and hands could do up to the last sad rites they will ever gratefully re- member. ========================================================================== If you've reached this file through a SEARCH, you can access more of our growing collection of FREE online information by going to the following URL: http://www.us-data.org/ ==========================================================================
