The lightning struck in several places, and the wind, rain and hail also did considerable damage. Light- ning struck the spire of the German Lutheran Church, and tore the shingles entirely off one side of the edifice. An electrical bolt visited JOHN HIGMAN'S barn, on the lake shore drive, cutting a hole through the roof and running down through the hired man's sleeping room. The man's escape was wonderful, as the lightning passed within three feet of him. The plastering in all sections of the barn was scattered. That more than one bolt struck the building is proved by two or three holes in the roof, which were discovered by MR. HIGMAN in the morning. A large barn near Benton Harbor was struck and completely destroyed. ========================================================================== If you've reached this file through a SEARCH, you can access more of our growing collection of FREE online information by going to the following URL: http://www.us-data.org/ ==========================================================================
