WILSON, of Lincoln, created almost a panic in our village Saturday evening, about 8 o'clock, by driving his double team attach- ed to a light spring wagon on a dead gallop nearly three times around the business block bounded by State, Ship, Main and Pleasant streets. As the streets were crowded with people at the time it is simply a miracle that no person was killed or even injured or damage done to teams or to WILSON and his team. On the third round he was stop- ped in front of MARTIN'S store, jerked out of his wagon in lively order, and held un- til the Marshal came and took charge of him, when he was locked up in the "cooler." It's a wonder that he was not torn to pieces by the excited crowd for endanger- ing the lives and property of so many of our citizens. The horses were cared for at HERRING'S livery. On Monday WILSON was brought before Justice BREWER and assessed $50 and costs for his mad drive. The tem- per of our people is such that it would not do for WILSON or any other party to repeat it. It is said that WILSON was un- der the influence of liquor at the time; he had a sufficiently clear mind, however, to guide his team each time in safety around the corners and prevent injurty to himself. When caught one of our citizens was compelled to choke him quite hard to make him let go the lines. =========================================================================== If you've reached this file through a SEARCH, you can access more of our growing collection of FREE online information by going to the following URL: http://www.us-data.org/ ===========================================================================
