M. VANDERBEEK, Constable, and brought before J. W. BREWER, Esq., of St. Joseph, charged with having, on the 31st day of March last, committed an assault upon the person of MARY BARNS. She went to Mrs. BARNES for some flour that the latter had borrowed of her some time previous. Mrs. BARNES informed her that she had no flour that she could spare then, but that the coming week she should be repaid. At this Mrs. DALY got enraged, and flew at Mrs. BARNES and struck her on the right side of the head with a tin pan, starting the claret pretty freely. The frightened woman recovering from the blow, picked up a chair and held it between her- self and her assailant, as a means of defense, until the latter got tired and left. Marks of violence were plainly visible on the side of Mrs. BARNES face, but nothing serious. ELLEN DALY was fined nine dollars and fifty cents, with costs of suit, and refusing to pay the amount, was sent to Berrien jail. She had an infant child with her. ===============================================================================
