           Mrs. SOLOMON SHOEMAKER, aged 30 years, was attacked by
         JOHN WILLIAMS on a back street in Benton Harbor the other
         night and when the woman screamed for help shot her three
         times in the face and once in the side. The bullet in her
         side would have caused instant death had it not been for
         a corset steel. WILLIAMS then undertook to take his own
         life. He was found in his room at 3 o'clock in the morn-
         ing in a half stupor. The woman will die. Her assailant
         was taken to her home and identified. There was talk of
         lynching him.
