Benton Harbor, Mich., Sept. 11. - Dr. E. E. BERRINGER was arrested yesterday morning at Watervliet charged with attempting to murder his wife while she was sleeping at the BERRIN- GER home in that village, eight miles north of Benton Harbor. The cies of the woman awakened two daughters and the enraged man was only pre- vented from carrying out his act by a fierce struggle, in which the daughters wrenched from their father's hand and iron pestle. The mother's face and neck are badly lacarated, but it is thought she may recover. Only a few days ago the daughter, MISS EVA BERRINGER, attempted suicide. Family difficulties are at the bot- tom of both attempts. BERRINGER was brought to the county jail here under fear of lynch- ing. The mother and daughter are highly cultured, one teaching in the public schools at Benton Harbor and the other at Three Oaks. ========================================================================== If you've reached this file through a SEARCH, you can access more of our growing collection of FREE online information by going to the following URL: http://www.us-data.org/ ==========================================================================
