Tuesday, 21 February, 1899

         Bay City, Mich., February 20 - MRS. MARGARET J. SHEARER,
       widow of the late HON. JAMES SHEARER, died at 11:30 this
       morning of heart failure as a result of the grip with which
       she was taken during the holidays. MRS. SHEARER'S maiden 
       name was HUTCHINSON. She was united in marriage to MRS. (sic)
       SHEARER in May, 1850, in Detroit, and moved to Bay City in
       1865. She is survived by three sons, GEORGE HENRY, JAMES
       BUCHANAN and CHAUNCEY HURLBURT.
