         One Man is Killed,
           Two Injured in Crash
           
         Clay Truck Goes Into Ditch While
           Trying to Pass Another Car
             Near Middleville.
             
         Middleville, Mich., Aug 18 (AP)
       ARTHUR SCODY, 55, of Hastings, was killed and
       two men riding with him in a clay truck were
       injured when the machine went into a ditch 
       while attempting to pass an automobile near
       here Saturday night.
         SCODY, who was driving, suffered a broken
       neck when the truck turned over. RAY KARCHER,
       50, of Hastings, and HIRAM VANDER WALD, 65,
       of Middleville, escaped with cuts and bruises
       when they leaped from the truck as it left
       the road.
