A.) Ruth Robbins Monteith, a member of Hannah McIntosh Chapter, N.S.D.A.R., Allegan, Mich. Pub. 1949 CATHOLIC CEMETERY, YANKEE SPRINGS TWP., BARRY CO., MICH. This old burying ground in on the town line road between Yankee Springs and Orangeville Townships, a few rods west of the county road C-611. A fence, now almost gone, at one time enclosed this little plot. Bushes, etc., show where graves are or were but the only tombstones are within the wire fence which encloses the Duffy family lot. For many years the only stone was that of Bridget Duffy but in the summer of 1940 the other three were set up. The following excerpt from a letter written Nov. 21, 1940 by Mr. J. C. Raymond of Middle- ville, Mich., to me (Ruth Robbins Monteith) is all that I have been able to learn of the history of this old cemetery. "Prehaps that is one of the oldest Cemeterys in the Co. and it was a Catholic Cemetery. There use to be a log church right East of the Cemetery. I have seen it and been in it when I was a boy. I attended one funeral there and that was the old lady Duffy over 50 years ago. And there is probably 15 or 20 Bodies there but I do not know the names of all of them there is 5 of the Duffy family there 3 girls and Mr. & Mrs. Duffy and there is one Oconnor girl and maybe two. And there is a man buried there by the name of Beard. I think and there is 2 or 3 Babys burried there but I do not know their names. Yes I think there were Bodies burried there before Bridget Duffy in 1851. The Priest use to come Frome Kalamazoo and hold meetings there in an early day. There is 4 of the Duffy Family Burried in the Protistant Cemetery at Yankee Springs. The youngest Duffy boy is living and is a man 80 yrs old but hes not at home and if he lives to get home he can give me more information. --- Some of the bodys have been taken up from this Cemetery and taken to Kalamazoo."
