- Antrim County -

Antrim County is located in the northwest section of Michigan's lower peninsula and bounded by (north) Charlevoix, (south) Kalkaska, (east) Otsego and (west) Grand Traverse Bay. Laid off as the unorganized county of Megesee in 1840 and given its current name in 1843. Antrim County was organized by an act of legislature on March 11, 1863 with the unorganized counties of Kalkaska, Crawford and Otsego attached for municipal and judicial purposes. Elk Rapids is the largest city and was the county seat until 1904 when it was removed to Bellaire. The Antrim County courthouse, built in 1904, was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 10, 1980.
