It is supposed that the fire originated in the fire room, and the building being of wood and very dry, the flames spread with alarming rapidity. However, the steamers soon had the flames under control, and suc- ceeded in keeping them subdued to such an extent that the machinery in the shop did not become suf- ficiently hot to be of a serious damage in that respect. The loss and damage on machinery will probably amount to $1,000 or $1,200, and was in- sured for $1,600. The building, which is a complete loss, was insured for $400, the loss being consider- ably larger. About two o'clock the next morning, the house of FRANCIS JOBIN, on Mills street, was discovered to be on fire, and the engines were again out and ready for duty, but it was found impossible to save the building, as the fire had gained too much headway, and the house was completely destroyed. There was no one living in the house at the time of the fire, and the occurrence of the disaster is supposed to be the work of an incendiary, and FRANCIS JOBIN has been arrested on charge of set- ting fire to his house, for the purpose of defraud- ing the insurance company. The building was worth $800 or $1,000, and was insured for $1,000. =========================================================================== If you've reached this file through a SEARCH, you can access more of our growing collection of FREE online information by going to the following URL: http://www.us-data.org/ ===========================================================================
