           Last Sunday morning, a lumber pile on the 
         dock of F. W. GILCHRIST was set on fire from
         the sparks of some passing boat, and the wind
         blowing a gale at the time, the fire was soon
         fanned to a good sized conflagration. There
         was some delay in getting water, and before
         the fire could be got under control, about
         300,000 feet of lumber had been consumed.
         Both the steamers were out, the water works
         in operation, and three tugs doing their best
         to check the flames. - The fire lasted nearly
         all day.
