R. Page & Co., Chicago - 1883 [247] MAJOR THOMAS H. HUNT, one of the prominent citizens of Alpena, was born in the State of New York in 1835. In 1838 he came to Michigan. In 1846 he went into the Mexican war, and was on duty as a soldier about eighteen months. Afterward he was lumbering at Lexington, Mich., and run the second mill built there. In 1861 he went into service as captain of the Seventh Michigan Infantry, and was promoted to the rank of a major. He made an excellent record during the war, as a gallant and efficient officer. In 1867 he came to Alpena, where he has been engaged in the lumber commission andl inspecting business. MAJOR HUNT occupies a prominent social and business position in Alpena.
