R. Page & Co., Chicago - 1883 [247] A. HARSHAW, dealer in hardware, Alpena, is one of the substantial mer- chants of the city. He is a native of Ireland, and emigrated to this country in 1849. He was engaged in business at Pontiac for some time, and in 1872 came to Alpena and opened a store on the north side of the river. He did business there until 1874, when he went out of business. In 1876 he started in business again, and in 1877 built the brick block on Second Street in which his store is now located. MR. HARSHAW is a man of sound judgment and a careful business man. He has been a member of the board of education, supervisor and alderman, and at the present time is chairman of the board of health. He is a prominent member of nearly all the secret and benevolent societies in the city.
