DR. JONATHAN EDWARDS, D.D., second, was born May 26, 1745, at Northampton, Mass. When six, his father was called to the College of New Jersey as president, Feb. 16, 1758, and they removed to Princeton, where the son was graduated in 1765. He was made tutor there in 1767, whence he was called Jan. 5, 1769, to New Haven. He married MARY, dau. of the Hon. ELEAZUR PORTER of Hadley, Mass., who was drowned in June, 1782; his four children were by this marriage. He married second, MERCY, daughter of HEZEKIAH SABIN of New Haven, Conn. After his long pastorate this this church, he was called in 1795 to Colebrook, Conn., and in 1799 he was elected to the presidency of Union College, Schenectady, N.Y., where he died Aug. 1, 1801. ==============================================================================
