ELIZABETH BLY, in this town, who was in bed with her two little children, and after violating her person, and beating her in a most savage manner, escaped undis- covered. - The cries of MRS. BLY alarmed several persons in the neighborhood, who, as they approached the house, saw two men run from it, but were unable to overtake them. A mulatto man by the name of WILLIAM GRIMES, who had kept a barber's shop adjacent, and who it appears had sworn revenge on MRS. B for some trivial cause, was suspected of being the perpetrator of this infamous trans- action, and was arrested and examined before justice WILLIAMS, but there not being suffic- ient evidence to convict him, he was acquitted. MRS. B. however, made oath that she feared he would do her further personal injury; he was therefore again arrested, and as no person would become responsible for his good behaviour he was on Saturday last sent off to Taunton jail. ================================================================================
