KEZE (*) in Richland township, on Thursday, Feb. 28, 1878. Mr. CLINE'S daughter having closed her school in that vicinity on the Friday previous the father went to convey her home. He was taken suddenly sick, of lung fever, and continued to grow worse until death relieved his suffering. MICHAEL CLINE was born in Crawford county, Ohio, March 1, 1829. He removed to Richland county in 1838; war married in August, 1850, and removed to this (Steuben) county in November, 1853, settling upon a farm some 4 1/2 miles northeast of town, where he resided and pursued the vocation of a til- ler of the soil until, within the past four years, he came to Angola to live. The subject of this sketch was the oldest son of eleven children - nine boys and two girls. The el- der sister is dead, the younger, Mrs. SHARRITT, lives near town. Of the brothers, five - all of whom, we believe, are residents of Richland county, Ohio - were in attendance at the funeral. He was for six years a County Commissioner of this county, and held the office of Township Trustee at the time of his death. He united with the Christian church about thirty years ago and for some years has held the position of an Elder in the society worshiping at this place. The universal sorrow depicted among the countenances of the large assemblage in attendance at the funeral was unmistakeable evidence of the high esteem in which Mr. CLINE was held by his neigh- bors and fellow citizens, and of the brotherly af- fection bestowed upon him by the membership of the church. He was known only to be honored and respected. Mr. CLINE was the father of nine children three boys and six girls, eight of whom, with the bereaved mother, are left to mourn his departure. Mrs. JOHN ZABST, JR., is a daughter of the deceased. Of the remaining children, all but two or three are grown up and fully competent to take care of themselves. The elder son, CYRUS, is Superintendent of the pub- lic schools of our county, and is known as a young man of energy and intellectual ability. The loss of no citizen, perhaps would have been more keenly felt or more universally lamented in this community than that of MICHAEL CLINE. He was a good man and will be sadly missed. (Transcriber's Note: WM. KEZE (as written) may have been Wm. F. Kiess who was still residing in Richland township on the 1880 Federal census.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Angola Herald Wednesday, March 6, 1878 Five brothers of our late deceased fellow townsman, M. CLINE, were in attendance at the funeral. Three of them, JOHN, GEORGE, and JACOB, returned Monday, ISAIAH, goes to-day, and EZRA, will remain till Monday next. JOHN'S wife accompanied him. ==========================================================================
