These irons were made to order by a village blacksmith and are strong enough to hold a pair of oxen, and yet it is stated that DOTY escaped from the custody of the officer in charge while wear- ing these ponderous shackles. We hefted them and should judge they will weigh 12 or 15 pounds. A portion of Dr. GRIFFIN'S history of this remarkable man, and the inci- dents connected with his trial and conviction for mur- der has been received but could not be put in type for this issue. ==========================================================================
