G. CROXTON, Esq., together with its contents, among which were the valuable trot- ting mare, "Jennie Barnes," one two-seated car- riage, one open buggy, one phaeton, one sulkey, harness, hay, grain, etc. A crib of corn near the barn was also destroyed. A dog which slept in the barn likewise perished in the flames. The ostler, who slept in the office at the opposite end of the barn from where the fire originated, was aroused just in time to rescue two other horses that were in the stable though in doing so he had his whiskers and hair considerably singed. The wind was in position to carry the flames toward Mr. CROXTON'S residence, only a few rods distant, and it was with the utmost exertion that the building was saved with the aid of car- pets spread upon the roof and kept thoroughly saturated with water. Meanwhile a squad of men worked vigorously to save a quantity of cord wood and the buildings on the west side. The fire was evidently the work of an incen- diary. Loss from $1,500 to $2,000; insurance $500. ==========================================================================
