         A SAD CHRISTMAS
         
         Sixteen Persons Drowned in Sugar Creek
         
         Last evening the Ledger received word of a sad accident
       which occurred last Saturday at Wright's mills, in Parke
       county, just over the line dividing Fountain and Parke.
       Sixteen young men of the neighborhood made up a skating
       party and repaired to Sugar Creek, where they were spending
       a joyful Christmas, little dreaming of the terrible acci-
       dent so soon to befall them. As the whole party was stand-
       ing together in the middle of the creek the ice suddenly
       gave way and the entire number went under. Not one was
       rescued, and all of Sunday was spent in recovering the
