Late in the afternoon the HARTER gang put in their appearance, and being seconded by CLARENCE, McCUNE, BILL WALLACE, BILL SMITH, and other hoodlums of this stripe, kept up a continuous fight for several hours, re- volvers and knives being drawn and used with indifferent success. Scores of men and women came out of the affray with scared faces and bruised bodies, none of them however serious- ly injured except CHARLES WAGNER, who was attacked by the mob and shamelessly beaten. Merchant policemen HARRISON and COULTER were perfectly powerless to maintain order, and as Chief DENEY very properly refused to fur- nish police protection outside of the city limits, the drunken crowd was unmolested in its shameless doings. There seems to be an im- perative demand for the county authorities to take immediate measures to ward suppress- ing a repetition of yesterday's outrage. Under the impression that WAGNER'S in- juries would prove fatal, JOHN KELLY was arrested this morning by officers STOFER and STEVENS, and held on a charge of murder, he being the party suspected of inflicting the assualt. KELLY had a severe cut over his hand, which he received during the en- counter, and when arrested today was still under the influence of liquor. While the injuries of WAGNER are of a very painful charater (sic), they are not pronounced at all fatal, and in fact his recovery is ex- tremely probable. CHRISTENA KOONTZ and IDA HENSLEY were also wanted by officer CARR, and are held as active participants in yesterday's proceeding at the park. The owner of the premises assures The News that another such gathering shall never congregate there with his consent. Late this afternoon the following additional arrests were made in connection with this af- fair, the participants being held on a charge of riot: IDA RAGAN, HATTIE JOHNSON, SALLIE HAGGERTY, JENNIE COLEMAN, IRA HARTER, ELLEN HARTER, J. W. MORGAN, CLARENCE McCUE, MOLLIE HARTER, RUSSIA EINATZ, HARRIET THOMPSON, JOHN KENNEDY. ===========================================================================
