P. Aylsworth, who attended the funeral of the late Rev. T. P. SUTTON, whose death occurred at Butler, De Kalb county, on Thursday of last week, for the following particulars concerning the life work of the subject of this sketch: Eld. THOMAS P. SUTTON was born in White Eyes township, Coshocton county, Ohio, July 29th, 1840, and died Jan. 24th, 1878, at Butler, Indiana. He entered the army in 1863, remaining in the service until the close of the war. During a part of the time he acted as chaplain of the regiment to which he belonged. After his return home he purchases a small farm in Gratiot county, Mich., where he remained only a short time, having determined to devote his time wholly to the ministry. Since that time he has been laboring in the ministry of the Christian Church in the vicinity of his home. His ministry has been one of marked success. At the time of his death he was president of the Northern Indiana Ministerial Association of the Christian Church, which position he filled with entire satisfaction. At the last meeting of the State Mission board of his church he was employed for one-half his time to act as State Evangilist and had begun his work with success. Rev. Sutton had for some time suffered from cancer in the face and it was the effect of that which finally caused his death. His funeral last Friday was largely attended. Several clergymen, both of his own and other churches were pre- sent to testify their respect. The sermon was delivered by Eld. W. P. Aylsworth of this place. ==========================================================================
