M. E. church on North Center street at 10 a.m. tomorrow. Friends have purchased a new suit and a fine coffin for the old man and he will be respectfully buried. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Pantagraph July 25, 1908 (extract from article "Attendants At First Old People's Picnic" The Oldest Man in the County The name of HENRY WELLS is mentioned. WELLS, who was a colored man, was the oldest resident of the county at the time of his death, being more than a century old. For years he was a character about the city and finally died at the poor farm. He attended this first picnic and gave October 11, 1794, as the date of his birth and saw the light of day in Lexington, Ky., living there thru the slavery days. ==========================================================================
