                   JONATHAN O. THOMAS, who died at the poor farm
                 on May 9 from paralysis, was the first white child
                 born in Cheney's Grove township. He was at one time
                 a well-to-do farmer, but met with adverse circum-
                 stances, and ended his days at the poor farm.
