He was a member of Co. H. 94th Illinois Infantry, and he was a good soldier. While in the battle at the seige of Vicksburg in 1863, and while stand- ing too near a cannon, he was badly shocked, and concussion of the brain resulted. His mind became deranged and he was sent to an insane asylum at Jeffersonville. Two years ago he having partially recovered his mind, he was removed to the poor farm in this county where he died, his remains were laid to rest by his comrades in the cemetery at Shirley. ==========================================================================
