Harriet Beecher Stowe Institute
I have not been able to learn a great deal about this institution. The institute, a home for colored children, was in a large brick house on Hovey avenue in the southwest part of Normal. The house was previously owned by William Partridge. I cannot determine what year this institute first opened their doors but an article in the Bloomington Pantagraph dated February 3, 1908, that it had "been for some years in this city and Normal." On January 4, 1909, the charter of the institute was revoked and the place closed.
