He was born near Bangor, Me., Oct. 14, 1819; and when a young man studied and began the practice of law at Bangor. He was identified with the politics of Grundy county, having been in 1861 elected county judge as a republican and afterwards he was appointed internal revenue inspector of the northwest, embracing the terri- tory of Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. He was always personally popular and a man whom friends will deeply miss. ===========================================================================
